Should we go slowly slowly with the Deobandees?

For many years there has been a discussion amongst the Salafi community and the people of Tawheed in Leicester on how we should deal with the Deobandi Sufi sect with regards to calling them to the truth. Some are of the opinion that we should have a slowly, slowly approach and the Deodandis should not be refuted openly as this would cause them to flee from the correct Aqeedah and Manhaj, so their approach is not to refute them openly nor to mention their mistakes specifically nor to expose their Scholars who openly propagate shirk and bidah in the hope that this approach will attract people to the truth.

The other approach has been to openly refute the Shirk and Bidah of this sect by authoring books against them and refuting them in seminars and generally in the Friday Khutbah.  This approach is  robust and has led to clarity for many, but at times it has caused friction in the community with those who have differed with this approach.

The Deobandis are on the offensive.

On Tuesday 20th of September,  I was sat in Masjid Taybah when I received a call on my mobile by an anonymous caller asking if I was Jafar Asalafi? I responded in the affirmative. The caller said he wanted to meet me in order to give me a book, as he wanted me to read it and give my thoughts on it. When I enquired as to what the book was about and who was the author, the caller remained elusive. We agreed to meet at the front of the Masjid for him to give me this book which he said “inspired him“. He subsequently came and gave me this book which was entitled “Albani Unveiled”.

When I read the blurb it became apparent to me that the book is an attempt to discredit Sheikh Albani as a Scholar of hadith and show the errors of the Salafi manhaj and to propagate Taqleed to one of the four mathabs and adherence to the Ashari Aqeedah.  The book was being distributed from a Leicester Address.

Is it time to take the kiddy gloves off?

From my own observations the gently, gently approach has not had  a great positive effect in educating many from the Deobandi community the error of their ways with regards to things like making the Prophet (salaAllah alahi wasalam) and others as an intercessors with Allah supplicating   through them, or believing that Allaah is everywhere or celebrating the Prophets birthday and other acts that contradict the Divine Revelation.

What is needed is a robust approach that calls those that in error to the straight path of course using wisdom and beautiful preaching but there should be a steady progress that does not leave those seeking clarity ignorant and left in misguidance to continue to practice innovations.

The Quran and the Sunnah Refutes the Musrikeen and the deviant sects and clarifies the Straight Path

Allaah says in his glorius book

And thus do We explain the Ayât (proofs, evidences, verses, lessons, signs, revelations, etc.) in detail, that the way of the Mujrimûn (criminals, polytheists, sinners), may become manifest. (Al-An’am 6:55). Indeed the Quran refuted, the musrikoon (polytheists) the Christians, Jews and Atheists.

When we look at the Sunnah the Prophet (salaAllaahu alahi wasalam) warned us about the dangers of the Khawarij and the Quraniyoon and the other deviants from the 72 astray sects.

Scholars like Imam Ahmad (rahimullah) authored a refutation on the Jahmiyah. Sheikh ul Islam Ibn taymeeyah refuted every deviant  sect that existed in his time.

So the question for us as Salafi’s and people of Tawheed is, what is the way forward and do we continue on the way of  slowly slowly?

Or do we follow the way of the Salafus Salah and refute and reply with wisdom.

As For the leaders amongst the Deobandees it seems as though they have made up their minds on how they are going to deal with us and that is to openly distribute books against us.
